Ask the Esthetician: What the Heck Is Hyaluronic Acid?

Q: What is Hyaluronic Acid?

A: Hyaluronic Acid is a lubricant and cushion found inside our connective tissue, which supports and binds other tissues in our bodies.  It is what makes connective tissue springy and elastic.  In other words, youthful.
Hyaluronic Acid is present in both the dermis and the epidermis. 50% of the body’s naturally produced Hyaluronic Acid that is found in the epidermis is metabolized and excreted in less than 24 hours. Because of this regularly occurring loss, it is very beneficial to supplement Hyaluronic Acid with a topical treatment.

Hyaluronic Acid is naturally occurring in plants as well. Hyaluronic Acid from marshmallow plant extract can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water! This makes it an ideal source for topical treatments: deeply hydrating the skin to leave it plump and therefore minimizing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.  This ingredient is found in our new Sweet Cheeks line of Eminence Organics products, which smell DIVINE.

If you would like to experience the amazing benefits of Hyaluronic Acid for yourself, there is a perfect opportunity to do so this summer at Zenana Spa. We’re featuring the Eminence Orgnanics Strawberry Rhubarb products in the “Sweet Cheeks Facial.” These products contain Hylaluronic Acid and many other highly beneficial ingredients such as lactic acid and salicylic acid that help revive and revitalize your skin.
