Skin already knows how to repair itself. It just gets slower with time. Microneedling isn’t about adding something new- it’s about asking your skin to do what it already knows how to do, more efficiently.
Here’s what sets microneedling apart, with most facials, the product is the focal point. We choose what to put on your skin, and the results come from what we apply. Microneedling works the other way around. The treatment itself is the stimulus, and there’s no active ingredient doing the work for you. Your own skin does it, prompted to build fresh collagen and refresh its surface.
At Xenana, microneedling is corrective work done with intention, not intensity. Below is what it actually is, how it differs from the Infusion Facial, and how to know if it’s right for you.
What microneedling actually does
Microneedling uses a precise, FDA-registered device to create tiny, controlled points of stimulation in the skin. That gentle prompt wakes up your skin’s own repair response, the natural process that produces fresh collagen and elastin. Over the following weeks, your skin renews itself: smoother texture, softer-looking fine lines, more even and refined tone.
The key idea is that microneedling doesn’t put results into your skin. It asks your skin to make them. Your skin’s being prompted to do what your skin already knows how to do, that’s why the results look like you, only fresher.
How it’s different from the Infusion Facial
This is the question we hear most, because on the surface both use fine needles. They work in completely different ways, toward different goals. Some clients find one is the better fit; others use both, for different reasons and different seasons. We’re glad to help you sort out which makes sense for you.
Microneedling works by prompting your skin to repair itself. The stimulation is the treatment. Your skin reads it and responds by renewing, building new collagen over time. It’s the more intensive of the two, and it comes with a few days of redness as your skin does its work.
The Infusion Facial works by delivering nourishment into your skin. It uses nano needles, to create gentle pathways that carry customized serums and actives deeper than they could reach on their own. Here, the delivery is the point. There’s essentially no downtime, and you leave polished and glowing the same day.
One triggers a response. The other delivers actives deeper into the skin.
- Choose microneedling when you want to stimulate real renewal in texture, firmness, and fine lines, and you can plan around a few days of redness.
- Choose the Infusion Facial when you want visible refinement and glow with no downtime, tailored to what your skin needs that day.
They’re not better or worse versions of each other, and they’re not a ladder you climb. Some clients do both, for different reasons, at different times. We’ll help you sort out which fits your skin and your calendar.
What to expect after
Let’s be honest about downtime, because it’s the real difference-maker in planning. After microneedling, plan for 1 to 3 days of redness, similar to a mild sunburn. Your skin will feel a little warm and look flushed, then settle. Most people time it so they have a quiet day or two afterward. With a little forethought, it’s easy to plan around.
This is also why microneedling is one of the few treatments we don’t offer during pregnancy. We’re upfront about that, and we always have beautiful alternatives.
Why the series matters
Because microneedling works with your skin’s own renewal cycle, results build session over session rather than all at once. Think of it like the collagen equivalent of showing up consistently. One visit helps, but a rhythm is where the real change lives.
We recommend a series of three treatments, spaced about a month apart, so your skin has time to fully renew and respond between sessions. That spacing isn’t arbitrary. It follows the pace your skin actually rebuilds at. After your series, we maintain seasonally, as your skin needs.
