What Is a Microcurrent Facial?

The world of skincare and facial treatments has evolved dramatically in recent years. New technology and ongoing research have given us options that previous generations would have seen as science fiction. One of the most cutting-edge skincare treatments available is the microcurrent facial.

The Xenana Spa team of estheticians is here to help your skin look and feel its best. We offer a wide range of services, including microcurrent facials, to pamper you and keep your skin healthy. Feel free to reach out with questions or to book your appointment today.

How Does a Microcurrent Facial Work?

This type of facial is a non-invasive cosmetic treatment. Your esthetician uses a handheld device to deliver tiny currents of electricity to the skin to strengthen the facial muscles to help tighten and lift the skin.

Many people compare microcurrent facials to strength training…for your skin! The device has two electrodes to deliver the electric current. The electricity causes the facial muscles to contract and strengthen, similar to how large muscle groups respond to weight lifting.

As a painless, non-surgical procedure, a microcurrent facial is a popular option that can offer great results. You stay awake during the treatment and can go about your normal activities after.

What Are the Benefits of a Microcurrent Facial?

People who utilize microcurrent facials report many excellent results. Some of the top benefits may include the following:

  • Improved facial contour
  • Fewer wrinkles
  • Tightening of the skin
  • Boosted collagen production
  • Reduced puffiness
  • Increased circulation and blood flow to the skin

With minimal risk and a low price tag compared to cosmetic surgery, microcurrent facials are an accessible way to boost your skin’s health.

What Is a Typical Course of Treatment?

At Xenana, you can book solo, stand-alone microcurrent facials. However, they are most effective when you do a series of weekly treatments. We recommend six weekly facials with a week between each one. Most people also benefit from monthly sessions after the initial round of six.

Each treatment is about 75 minutes, and we start by cleansing, exfoliating, and applying a toner. Next, we do the microcurrent facial, followed by LED light therapy and a facial massage. Our estheticians use professional serums based on your skin’s needs, along with customized finishing products.

Are Microcurrent Facials Safe for Everyone?

These procedures are considered relatively safe for most people when administered by a licensed professional using an FDA-approved device.

However, these treatments are not yet considered safe for anyone who is pregnant or who has the following:

  • Pacemaker
  • Epilepsy
  • Seizures
  • Metal facial implants

Additionally, you should wait 10-14 days after getting Botox or fillers before having a microcurrent facial.

If you’re ready to treat yourself or a loved one to healthier-looking skin, a microcurrent treatment in our Portland, OR, spa might be the perfect choice. Our licensed estheticians will choose the right products for your skin so that you can feel your absolute best. Reach out with any questions you have and book your next appointment today.
